Extended Furlough Scheme Information

Following the government’s lockdown announcement on Saturday, the job support scheme, which had been due to replace the Furlough scheme from 1 November, has been postponed, and the furlough scheme extended until December, with the precise end date currently unclear.

The new furlough scheme is UK wide.

The Job Support Scheme has been delayed until the new furlough scheme ends.

The scheme has reverted to 80% of salary, subject to a cap of £2,500 per month.

Employers are obliged to pay only the national insurance and pension contributions. While topping up the employee’s salary is not obligatory, it is permitted.

Employees can work part time and receive furlough for unworked hours.

All employees on PAYE payroll before midnight on 30 October 2020 are eligible for the new furlough scheme.

Given the that Job Support scheme was due to begin on 1 November, many employers will have already taken steps to agree changes to hours with their employees. If you now need to amend your agreement to place employees on furlough, please get in touch for free suggested wording.
