BREAKING NEWS – No Fault Divorce to be available from 6th April 2022
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed this week that it is working to a deadline of 6th April 2022 to bring into effect the provisions of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020. This means that it will be possible for married couples to divorce without placing fault on one party or the other.
Whilst this date is later than expected, this is the biggest reform of divorce law in this country for 50 years and represents a significant step towards modernising the approach to divorce. The new procedure will modernise the language used in divorce, and will introduce a 26 week minimum time period to allow couples a period of reflection following the application being submitted to the court.
