Landlords’ Checks December 2015

Note for landlords

As from 1st February 2016, all private landlords will be under a duty to check that new tenants have the legal right to be in the UK before they can rent out their property.

The Immigration Act 2014 puts a restriction on private landlords of residential properties to allow certain people, based on their immigration status, to occupy their properties.

A breach of this new obligation could lead to a civil penalty of up to £3,000.
